Who do you need an appointment with?

Practice Nurse Appointments

Minor Illness

Appointments are available each day with our specialist trained Minor Illness nurse. She is trained to examine patients and is supported by the doctors of the practice, to whom she can refer at any time. The nurse is able to prescribe from the whole range of medicines and to assess and advise on many conditions. These include cystitis, sore throats, skin and nail infections, hay fever, nappy rash, conjunctivitis, minor injuries and emergency contraception.

Our receptionists may give you the option of seeing the Minor Illness Nurse or you may ask specifically for them. Or if you think that you may have a problem suitable for the nurse to check but are unsure then check with the receptionist when booking.

Our Nurses also undertake:

  • Removal of sutures.
  • Travel advice and vaccinations
  • Cervical smears.
  • Contraceptive advice
  • Wound dressing.
  • Vaccinations.
  • Asthma and Diabetes Management
  • COPD Management
  • Smoking Cessation

Health Care Assistant (HCA) and Phlebotomist

Blood Tests

Our HCA and Phlebotomist carry out most of our blood tests which can usually be carried out routinely and booked as appointments allow. The doctors will advise you of which blood tests you require and the receptionist will allocate the appropriate time for the appointment and inform you of any special arrangements required e.g. fasting before the test.

The HCA also carries out:

  • Health checks
  • Ear syringing – leaflet
  • ECGs
  • Blood pressure monitoring

Non-urgent advice:

Help us in booking the correct length of appointment time for you by telling which type of nursing or HCA service you are booking an appointment for. All of these have differing lengths of time allocated to them appropriate to the service being delivered.
